New York Comedy Classes at West Side, formerly FUNY Standup

Our classes are run by the club's own booker, which is rare: most New York comedy schools have no tie to a club. You learn in the room you want to play, from the person who books it.

Unless otherwise noted, classes take place at West Side Comedy Club, 201 West 75th Street, New York, NY 10023 (inside Playa Betty's).
Our general classes are 18+, but we also offer Kids and Teen courses for high school students.
A notebook, something to write with, something to record yourself with (phones are fine), a water bottle and any handouts already given out. If the teacher emails them to you, it's fine to pull them up on your phone or tablet. Please don't redistribute handouts or course materials.
If you miss more than one class, taking part in the final performance is at your instructor's discretion. Makeup classes are subject to availability and not guaranteed.
Sometimes. All classes, including online courses, may be recorded for absent students or later use. If that's a concern, write to info@funystandup.com.
Our teachers are working comics, so now and then a gig comes up and a substitute steps in for that week. If a class is ever cancelled, we schedule a makeup class or give students a credit toward their next course.
Class times are on each class page. End times can change based on class size.
Yes. Graduation shows need at least 20 tickets sold to go ahead. We can cancel the show up to 4 hours before start time if the audience is too small.
They are if you want to advance. Final performances are recorded and may be used on our social media.

Yes. Graduation shows are taped, and you get a recording of your set after the show.
Our teachers will never dictate what a comic can or can't say, so no material is off-limits. But we will not tolerate harassment or punching down.
Comedy touches on just about every topic, including darker material, and comedy is subjective. We never want teachers telling students they can't write jokes on certain topics, but we are not in the business of making people feel unsafe. Being homophobic, sexist, racist, antisemitic or otherwise offensive to be edgy, such as making someone the butt of a joke or punching down, will not be tolerated. Teachers follow this policy in class too.
If you feel targeted or unsafe, contact management at Felicia@funystandup.com. Anyone who breaks this policy gets one written warning, and may be removed without a refund for any further offense.
New lineups and on-sales, by email.
